According to unofficial statistics, more than 70% of people have experienced unexplained itchy skin conditions at some point in their lives. When experiencing itchiness on the body’s largest organ, the skin, it is crucial to take it seriously. In addition to dryness and itching caused by skin aging, there are eight significant conditions that may be causing your symptoms.

1.Skin diseases:

Itching due to skin problems typically has two causes. One is a lack of moisture, such as during dry weather. The other is skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis, which can also cause itching.

      2. Allergies:

Skin redness and itching can be caused by allergic reactions to food, pollen, dust mites, or exposure to certain chemicals.

      3. Gynecological diseases:

Itching in the female genital area can be a sign of vaginal infections like a yeast infection. Over 70% of women experience itching during their menstrual period, which could be due to low-quality sanitary pads or tight underwear.

      4. Thyroid dysfunction:

Both hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism can cause itchy skin. However, itching caused by hyperthyroidism typically develops over time and the skin tends to be dry.

      5. Cardiovascular and endocrine diseases:

Itching of the skin can also be caused by diseases affecting the heart, brain, and tissues throughout the body, such as ischemic or hemorrhagic diseases resulting from hyperlipidemia, atherosclerosis, hypertension, and other similar conditions. Additionally, diseases of the endocrine and urinary systems can also cause itching.

      6. Liver and gallbladder diseases:

According to studies, itchy skin is a common symptom experienced by 40% to 60% of patients with liver and gallbladder diseases when they have an abnormal liver function and jaundice.

      7. Diabetes:

Diabetic patients with high blood sugar may experience fungal infections that can invade the skin and cause itching. It’s been reported that 15% to 35% of diabetic patients experience itchy skin, and about 10% of early-stage patients might experience systemic or local skin redness, swelling, and itching, particularly in the chest, limbs, vulva, and anus.

      8. Malignant tumors:

Certain types of cancer, including lymphoma, gastrointestinal, liver, ovarian, and prostate cancer, can cause significant and persistent itching. This symptom is often difficult to alleviate and may require specialized treatment.
